Who We Are

We Are Credentialed Child Welfare & Attendance Counselors also known as Pupil Services and Attendance Counselors (PSA Counselors) in the second-largest district in the nation: Los Angeles Unified School District.

Child Welfare and Attendance is a specialized student support service that covers compliance with compulsory education laws, student admission and enrollment procedures, student discipline procedures, transfers to alternative programs, and school climate and safety.  Child welfare and attendance combines the knowledge and skill of counseling with knowledge of education and the law to resolve complicated situations involving school choice, student discipline, campus safety, and programs for high-risk youth.

As PSA Counselors we serve as the liaison between school, home, and the community. We work with and on behalf of students whose home of community life presents barriers that impede educational progress. We work directly with students who experience difficulty in educational achievement due to social/emotional adjustments and/or attendance issues. We provide direct clinical and case management services to students and parents and provide consultation and in-service to school site personnel.

As PSA Counselors we also ensure equity and access for students to all available educational resources and link students to community resources in order to advance opportunities for success.
